GERMANIUM TRACEABILITY

November 15th, 2021                                                                                                                                  Version 1.0.0

DLT Labs is proud to announce the release of the first phase of ‘Project Thor’ for Teck Resources Limited. The initial phase focuses on providing end-to-end provenance and visibility for the sourcing, refinement, and manufacturing process for Germanium concentrate.
The requirement for this implementation is to:

  1. Create an application for Teck’s Trail Operations department that meets the required ESG standards.
  2. Source Zinc and Germanium from responsible mines.
  3. Maintain product delivery transparency that meets quality standards, as expected by customers.
  4. Capture data that is both verifiable and auditable.

Further, Teck has stringent sustainability goals and wants to develop and implement a “product passport” - a responsible producer program traceable through the value chain - by 2025.

To achieve this goal, the initial phase focused on these aspects:

  • Capture Germanium and Zinc attributes at each of the designated touchpoints along the chain of custody, through manual and/or electronic inputs.
  • Provide a single, shared version of truth between multiple business process participants (internal and external to Teck Resources).
  • Provide immutable data to stakeholders based on a user’s role within the supply chain.
  • Demonstrate adaptability and scalability of the solution for other Teck products outside of Germanium Tetrachloride and Germanium Dioxide.
  • Incorporate various formats for certifications, assays, and documents into the chain of custody.
  • Generate reports using data obtained by integrating with various Teck systems to be made available to stakeholders - specifically the Mass Balancing and Country of Origin report.

Germanium Chain of Custody – Finished Product

Features Delivered in this Update

  • Onboarding of the following Business Entities
    1. Two initial mines
    2. Teck groups; Trail Operations, Material Stewardship, Corporate Affairs, Sales and
    3. Marketing

  • User-based permission and access control mechanisms ensured selective visibility and accessibility of data. Additionally, specific information such as the Mine’s name was kept confidential.

  • Cross-platform integrations were implemented for systems like:
    1. SAP - for shipping notices and sales orders.
    2. Raw Material Management Systems (RMMS) - to capture weight & moisture data and assay exchanges.
  • Reports were generated using data from system integration and made available to authorized users on the platform.

  • Calculation of Mass Balancing - the process used to estimate the source of feed consumed during the production of Germanium Tetrachloride and Germanium Dioxide.

  • Visibility to the end customer, Corning, as to the country of origin and certifications of mines from which product was sourced.

  • Centralized source for document management and reporting.

  • Inclusion of the following artifacts compromising documents, certifications, assays, and reports to be tracked and made available to authorized users on the platform.
