The size of Walmart's physical stores mean that they can only be built in certain areas. To mitigate such location related challenges, Walmart has partnered with Pickup Location to fulfill picking, packing, and delivery to 3rd party pickup locations for collection by the customer.
The Pickup Location Model is divided into two sub-models:
- Pickup Location Grocery Orders
- Pickup Location Store Locations
The Pickup Location Grocery Orders model is precisely the same as the Last-Mile Delivery (LMD) model.
Pickup Location is a model where both Walmart and Pickup Location teams jointly run stores. WMC pays a fixed upkeep fee for store operation irrespective of the total number of orders. This partnership agreement changes every year, and Walmart has different contracts with every store.
Most of the data is pulled from predefined master tables in this model. Each store has a unique store ID and a dedicated business workflow.
There is no concept of orders or invoice aggregation. This model is based on agreements with predefined values/fees. Therefore, this model has only the Invoice Business Workflow.
